Writing and selling ebooks isn’t easy.
But then again, thousands of people are making a living selling ebooks online, so why not you?
Just because you’ve failed before doesn’t mean you can’t succeed.
It’s like learning any other skill. If you’ve learned to walk, you can learn to write and sell ebooks.
Just like with walking, you won’t succeed right away. You’ll crawl at first, try to get up, fall over, try again, and keep falling.
Until one day, when you take your first step.
And from then on the world will be at your feet.
But even if you stubbornly keep going, there’s a problem.
Why Most People Fail
The problem is bad information.
When you learn to walk, you have all the information you need inside your cells. Not so with ebooks.
You know a lot of the steps, but you don’t know what you don’t know, and that can be fatal.
This isn’t helped by the avalanche of bad products, ebooks and courses out there claiming to show you the quick and easy path to glory.
They promise push-button solutions.
But we both know they’re lies.
We want to believe that it’s true, but deep down we know it takes real work to get real results.
And if you’re anything like me, you’ve fallen prey to these products, which has left you jaded and wary.
But the solution isn’t to stop altogether.
So, What’s The Answer?
The answer is to keep going until you find something that works.
But I’m not just talking about things that work today.
I’m talking about building a solid foundation of skills that not only helps you write and sell ebooks, but helps you build a profitable online business around your passions.
While others are looking for quick fixes, you know that looking for shortcuts only leads to detours in the long-term.
The real shortcut to success is no shortcut at all. (Click here to tweet this)
You’ll have to face your fears.
You’ll have to be stubborn enough to keep going when everything seems lost.
But how do you actually write ebooks that sell?
What is this foundation I’m talking about?
How to Write Ebooks That Sell
There are a lot of steps to writing ebooks that sell, but the three steps below are the most important.
These are the ones I see people get wrong time and time again.
Writing and selling ebooks is not all about you. It’s also about the people you help.
And it all starts with solving a problem.
1. Problem
People want solutions to their problems.
They don’t want to hear what you think is best for them. They want what they think is best for them.
If I want to get six pack abs, I want a product that can get me there as fast as possible. I want the information that will help me now, and nothing else.
I don’t care about health and recipes. Not right now. I just want to get a six pack. I might be open to changing my lifestyle down the road, but first I want what I want.
I want the fat on my stomach to go bye-bye, so I can impress the people around me.
However, the problem is only the first step.
2. Solution
You have to have a convenient solution to the problem.
This doesn’t mean you have to come up with something groundbreaking. It just means that you help people get results without all the fluffery.
All you have to do is solve the problem with your ebook.
Nothing more. Nothing less.
This comes as a relief to many of my clients, because they realize they don’t have to write a 200-page book.
It could just be a 40 pages filled with practical step-by-step information. Hell, it could even be a 10-page booklet.
As long as you’re honest with people about what they’re getting, you’ll be fine. In most cases, it’s not about how many words you have, but the results they get.
And you can expand your ebook later, but you have to start small and test your idea.
Create something small, start selling it, and add information as you go.
3. Promotion
Once you’ve got the problem and the solution in place, you have to write your ebook, which is where a lot of people get stuck.
But more on that in the coming weeks.
You have to realize that you can’t write your ebook and hope people will buy it.
You have to market it.
You have to write a sales page and get the right people to that sales page.
Now, this may seem like a lot, but remember, these are learnable skills. I didn’t know anything about this 5 years ago, but I learned.
And if I can do it, so can you.
What If You Fail?
No one can guarantee success, but you don’t need guarantees.
You only have to start, because the more work you put in, the better you get, and the closer you get to figuring out where the puzzle pieces go.
And the more correct information you have, the higher your chances.
It all comes down to probabilities. Probabilities are the secret to success.
You’ll have your fair share of setbacks, but when you keep going, good stuff happens. Ebooks get written and sold.
Bottom Line
Writing and selling ebooks comes down to solving problems.
The more pressing the problem, the better your chances are.
But solving problems alone is not enough. You also have to know how to write your ebook, how to get it set-up, and how to sell it.
You can waste a lot of time trying to figure this stuff out. You may even think ebooks are dead, that the gold rush is over. We’ll dive deeper into all of this in upcoming articles, so stay tuned.
Just remember this: there are thousands of people making a living selling ebooks, which means you can do it, too.

Great tips, but coming from the ‘been there, done that’ point of view, what I see as the biggest problem is author’s poop out after they get their work of art published and sit back waiting for people to find it. Wrong! That is precisely when the real work begins! And, it takes time … my first book on Amazon (nonfiction / self-help) was published end of April and I just got the royalties for May – okay, so it’s only $100 but looking at sales for June the amount should be double that and so far for July more than triple. But I’ve worked to market my books every single day since I published them! So here’s my advice – yes, write the best book you can, but don’t waste time trying to make it perfect … get it out there and market your little heart out! Any author who’s actually making money from sales of their books will tell you the key is to keep writing more books because your reputation and sales will build with each new publication.
Yes!
And the same is true for writing and publishing ebooks on your own platform (like a blog).
It’s never just write once and you’re done. It’s hard work, like anything else.
Thanks for the comment, Marquita!
Hey Henri, another awesome article man.
Many Internet Marketers and Bloggers never talk about promoting a product, they will teach the research, the steps, the actual product creation and somehow people miss out that the product needs to be promoted indeed.
There’s a whole new huge array of things that come into play when it’s down to promotion but to keep myself in context within the article, I believe that finding a problem and delivering a solution, is one of the most profitable ways to make money online (if not THE main one).
Talk soon Henri and take care my good friend,
Sergio
Gracias Sergio.
Yup, you need to solve problems, and problems that people are willing to pay for.
