Do you feel like life doesn’t make sense?
Maybe life has thrown you a curveball or two, and now you don’t know what to do.
You had certain expectations, but life didn’t cooperate.
So how do you deal with the uncertainty of life, with the confusion?
Let’s start by looking at what is truly going on.
What is Going On?
As humans, we are sense-making creatures. We organize the world internally.
As we grow up, we take in programming, which blends with our personality and spirit. We inherit the values of the people and society around us.
Our mind then tries to make sense of all this. It creates meaning, relationships, and other connections out of all the information that has been taken in.
We also learn that there are things that are good and bad in the world. We discover that there are things we like and dislike.
This then leads to setting goals that we believe will give us the ultimate reward, such as money, success, power, love, and security.
So you see, this is an inside job. Life making sense has little to do with actual life, and more to do with how you see life.
Every human being perceives life in their own unique way.
Why is This Happening?
Since your mind is a sense-making machine, it has arranged the world in a certain way. When life doesn’t cooperate, and your mind can’t rationalize what happens, things stop making sense.
Your virtual reality collapses.
This seems to be a bad thing, because it feels bad, but it’s an opportunity to align with what life’s calling out of you.
Your mind wants to make sense of things. When it can’t do that, there’s a negative reaction, because it is taken to be a threat to your survival.
How to Handle the “Nonsense”
Be with whatever emotion is present. If there’s fear, be with the fear. Look through the label of fear. Fear doesn’t exist. It is a word that we’ve given to sensations of energy.
Go beyond the label. Feel the energy dancing in your body. Welcome it fully into your whole being. Let it be there. It is a teacher.
As you do this, the fear will begin to dissipate, because all emotions eventually run out. It may be replaced by another emotion, such as panic, dread, or worry. If that happens, feel whatever comes up.
Life doesn’t have to make sense in order for you to live it. Life making sense is a mind-made fantasy. Just because you feel like life makes sense doesn’t mean that you are on the right path.
The mind is an automatic process that constantly brings up information that it has taken in. This information is viewed through underlying assumptions, likes and dislikes, and survival.
The mind is not you, it is a process. You are the consciousness that is aware of it. It is happening in the space within.
Here’s a video on this if you prefer the spoken word. The video and article cover different angles, so watching/reading both will deepen understanding.
What If the Emotions Don’t Stop?
This question arises from fear. You don’t have to be afraid of your internal experience. No emotion can hurt you.
“But it doesn’t feel good,” you might say.
The more willing you are to feel whatever comes up, and not push it away, the more you will realize that there’s nothing to be afraid of.
Our emotions go up and down. There are rainy days, and there are sunny days. The weather has no impact on the sun, on the wisdom and love that is within everything and everyone.
Okay, And Then What?
As you become aware of how your mind is making things up, you stop taking it so seriously.
You are not thinking. Thinking is a process. It is not a “me” or “you,” it is an “it.”
You begin to notice that life doesn’t have to make sense in order for you to live the life you were meant to live.
Your body and being naturally live life.
Or you could say that life lives you.
You don’t have to think about everything. You don’t have to plan incessantly. You don’t have to judge, or even have an opinion.
Your heart knows where to go. Your body takes care of itself. Inspiration arises out of “nowhere.”
The mind is great for practical matters, but anything else is above its pay grade.
Wrapping Up
If life doesn’t make sense, it’s a great opportunity to begin to truly live life.
You are connected to life. You are life.
There is nothing you have to do to access the wisdom within. It is always there, but we obscure it through our beliefs, programming, desires, and incessant thinking.
Don’t worry about understanding this fully. The mind wants to comprehend and dissect.
Instead, let this be. Understand what you understand. Time will take care of the rest.
Set the intention to understand more, to grow.
That is enough.
What you’re going through right now is an opportunity to discover who you truly are.
It is an opportunity to break free from the chains of the mind.
All the best,
Henri
